Incredible Service!

It is hard to find the right words to express how much I loved working with Spencer Special Events. Let me try this in three parts!

1. From the start, Amanda put me at her ease with her extremely warm and caring disposition and her excellent sense of humor. I have a background in Event Planning in New York City and I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of taste and service I experienced throughout the planning process with SSE. Amanda and Annie (her wonderful colleague) have strong relationships with excellent local vendors that I would have never found on my own. They were extremely patient when my work schedule prevented me from paying as much attention to the wedding as I probably should have at certain points in the planning process. As the wedding neared, I felt so calm and ready to enjoy the weekend!

2. CUE HURRICANE FLORENCE. My husband and I were supposed to be married on September 15, 2018, but the weekend before the news coverage became all about Hurricane Florence. Although beautiful Bluffton was (thankfully) spared from the storm, the governor of SC got a little too excited and called for a mandatory evacuation the Monday of our wedding week. As you can imagine, it was incredibly stressful and upsetting but SSE was so helpful and supportive. First of all, Amanda is so sweet you could tell she felt heartbroken too, bless her! She and Annie immediately handled everything with all vendors so we could focus on notifying our guests. They were so patient with us as we decided if we would reschedule, and we ultimately decided that we would reschedule for the Spring.

3. Fast forward to April, after Amanda and Annie rebooked most of the wedding vendors and magically recreated our original wedding weekend! I had been so pleased with the team throughout all of the planning and the drama but their onsite/day of planning is next level amazing. I barely had anything to do and could focus on enjoying the long weekend of celebrations with my guests! Everything was absolutely gorgeous and well-run, and they truly thought of every detail. Amanda and Annie have a larger team they use for wedding day support and I felt like I had an army of planners making sure everything was going as planned. Plus, they had me laughing throughout the day, and you can’t beat that.

SSE, thank you for the best weekend we could have ever imagined! My advice to future brides of South Carolina: HIRE THEM!

It all began with a license plate and transpired into the wedding of our daughter’s dreams. It sounds a bit weird but fate has a way of bringing people together in strange ways.

Soon after moving to Bluffton, SC in April of 2010 my husband and I were sitting in a local restaurant getting ready to order dinner. This cute blonde gal approached us and asked if we were Purdue alumni. We were a bit shocked at such an out-of-the-blue question but we admitted that we were both graduates as were all four of our children. She had seen the Purdue license plate on the front bumper of our car as we drove up to the restaurant and she informed us that she, too, was a Purdue grad and had grown-up in West Lafayette, IN. As often happens, people who have shared the same college experience seem to feel a real connection and that is exactly what happened after our short meeting with Amanda. I ran into her not too long after that first encounter and she remembered me. We chatted and I assured her that if and when my daughter ever became engaged, I would be calling her to enlist her services as a wedding planner.

On June 8, 2014 our daughter Mackenzie became engaged. I couldn’t find Amanda’s phone number and information fast enough. I contacted her and we set-up a meeting to work on venues. Our plans didn’t fall into place immediately but Amanda showed great patience, guidance and persistence in helping us find the exact venue and plan that we felt happy with. She gave us great advice on what needed to be done and when as well as keeping us on track to accomplish even the smallest details. Amanda never rejected any of our ideas or tried to dissuade us from anything we wanted to do. She always tried to do her best to make it all come to fruition.

Working with and building a relationship with Amanda over time, I felt like maybe I was “special” because of her never-ending patience, kind treatment, utmost respect and attention. But after reading other words of praise from clients, I realized that I wasn’t. She treats all of her clients that way! She is nothing but professional, knowledgeable and affiliates herself with topnotch vendors. Her management skills and use of her expert team is second to none. She is a “natural” at her job. She was born to organize, plan, manage and put people at ease at a time when emotions can get the best of us. She is wonderful at what she does. I can’t recommend her enough. If I had ten daughters getting married, I would have Amanda right next to me at every single wedding. She is THE BEST.

In retrospect, I am SO glad that our daughter gave us that license plate before graduating from college….wedding planning would not have been the joy that it turned out to be.

Soon after our daughter, Katelyn, and Evan became engaged on a family trip abroad and shared that they wanted to be married on Hilton Head Island we began our search for a wedding planner. After searching extensively, we were interested in working with only one person--Amanda Spencer! Our family lives on opposite coasts of the country (Katelyn and Evan live in San Diego, CA and we reside on HHI) which presented unique challenges during the planning process with scheduling telephone conversations, planning meetings and site visits.

Many of our planning sessions had to be done during Christmas week when Katelyn and Evan were in town. Amanda was so generous and accommodating with her time and schedule, and arranged a one-day planning session for us that was just perfect in every way and included florals, linens, menu tasting, cake tasting etc. Amanda's experience and vendor contacts in the low-country are extensive, and her taste is superb! When confronted with the very important task of planning my daughter’s wedding in the Hilton Head area, I wasn’t quite sure where to begin. I was convinced that having a local planner was important because my daughter and I live in different cities, and neither of us is closer than 800 miles from South Carolina. We did some research and interviewed several event planners when we came to the area who all seemed to be outstanding. I was getting overwhelmed. But as my daughter and I toured possible venues in the Hilton Head area, several site managers gave us the same suggestion: call Amanda Spencer. To hear this from the professionals was noteworthy and so we made one more phone call.

In that first call with Amanda, we knew we were on the right track. Amanda is so comfortable to work with, yet very professional. She has excellent taste and knows the best vendors in the area. She is compassionate and can help with difficult decisions. She maintains her calm disposition when circumstances beyond anyone’s control get out of hand. She is sensitive to budgets and knows how to get the best results within those constraints. In short, she is a wonderful captain of the ship and knows how to handle calm or rough seas, and she has a fabulous, friendly crew to assist in bringing a vision to life. My daughter and her husband rightfully toasted Amanda and her staff at the wedding reception.

I had a fabulous time and danced the night away while the SSE team graciously and inconspicuously continued to take care of business. Friends sent me thank you notes for the wonderful time they had at the wedding and are still talking about how amazing it was even though several months have gone by. Amanda and her team at Spencer Special Events are incredible!

I enjoyed every minute working with each and everyone of them! They did an unbelievable job of listening to my ideas, visions and bring them to life throughout the entire wedding weekend. They helped narrow vendor choices and recommend the ones that would best fit our style. Every visit we made to Hilton Head for planning she made as efficient and productive as it could be to maximize our time there since we were planning from a far. Amanda could not have been more helpful planning our dream wedding.

Not only did she go above and beyond making sure that every detail was executed perfectly, but she also did it with a huge smile. She understood our vision and the feeling we wanted for the entire weekend, and watching it come together was the best possible gift.

I am sure that many planners could put together a beautiful wedding. But I doubt that anyone could make it “yours” the way that Amanda does—my husband and I, and our guests, were able to see “us” weaved throughout every detail.

A perfect day in the face of a storm!

I have to start out by saying hiring Amanda Spencer from Spencer Special Events for our big day was the best decision we ever made.

From the moment my husband and I met her, we knew she was the right choice. Her bubbly and genuine personality not only allows her to connect with her clients, but also the vendors, which is extremely important. Everyone I spoke with who knew her, or had worked with her before, had nothing but great things to say, and the new vendors I brought in along with my family and friends thought she was just spectacular. Especially when hurricane Sandy was about to ruin our outside tented reception! It’s true, hurricane Sandy almost ruined our special day, but you would have never known it working with Amanda and her team (Lindsay, Megan, Annie and even her husband Case). She designed a detailed “Plan B” option just in case the weather didn’t hold up, but did everything in her power to bring our wedding vision to life – and sure enough the day was perfect. Even though we had to move the ceremony indoors (it was originally supposed to be outside), everything was still extremely organized and went off without a hitch.

Amanda and her team were on site all day the day of the wedding right up until we had our confetti send-off. We cannot say enough wonderful things about her and truly feel she will be someone we continue to keep in touch with for years to come. I would highly recommend Spencer Special Events to anyone knowing they would have the same experience.

Where to start is the hardest part of trying to convey how wonderful she is!!!

Having had a really rough year, with my mother being diagnosed with cancer and the death of my grandfather, we were really looking to kick off 2010 with a storybook wedding and lots of positive energy for the new year.

We began checking out venues for our January 2nd wedding and Amanda's name kept coming up as "the best" wedding planner around. Having never entertained the idea of hiring a wedding planner, we began to think that we should at least meet this "unbelievably talented, Amanda Spencer."

Well, the rest is history!! After meeting Amanda, we knew she was exactly who we needed to help guide us to create our "dream wedding." With her charm, personality, creativity and ability to listen and understand exactly what you want, you could not help but to fall in love with her and we knew it would be perfect!! The day of our wedding was the greatest day ever. Everything went off without a hitch and it was even better than we ever could have imagined. The BEST money my husband and I spent on our wedding was on a wedding planner. Worth every single penny!

At our first meeting with Lindsay and Amanda at Spencer Special Events I knew we had to hire them. It was essential that we hired someone to help plan and make recommendations since we live in Charleston, WV and weddings have a way of making brides overwhelmed. Both Amanda and Lindsay were so personal and so genuine. They asked questions about us and wanted to get a good feel for what we were looking for. I loved their energy and they were so much fun!

Well, that was all thanks to Lindsay and the Spencer Special Events Staff. Case Spencer, Amanda's husband, was also on hand to help get the groom and groomsmen organized and direct the wedding guests to the reception.

I'd also like to say that it was so thoughtful of Amanda to stop by the day of my wedding to check in on me and see how I was despite the fact that she had given birth to her second child just a week before my wedding.

Writing a letter like this can be difficult for several reasons. This one was hard because I just can’t express how wonderful Amanda is and how she pours herself into her work and making others happy. Once you meet her, you can understand…

I remember calling wedding coordinators the week after we got engaged and being so overwhelmed by all of their questions: “What is your budget?” “How many guests are you expecting?” “What venues have you looked into using?” “What date have you chosen?” None of them asked one question about me or my future husband. I was beginning to think that we should just elope! Then, I called Amanda. She took time to ask questions about how we met, why we chose Hilton Head as our location, and what things were important to us.

Planning a wedding that was so far away could have been quite a challenge for us. Amanda made it seem as though we were there, choosing a photographer, a florist, a caterer, a venue…the list goes on. She kept us on track without missing a beat. We had some odd requests: a caricature artist for the reception?! Amanda followed through with every last detail. Our guests were so pleased with her southern hospitality and go-to attitude. She was the greatest thing that ever could have happened to our wedding!
