One Incredible Bat Mitzvah Celebration

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Spencer Special Events had the unique opportunity to design, plan, and coordinate one dynamite Bat Mitzvah celebration for a darling young lady this past Fall. We were so honored to plan the ultimate party for Allessandra and adored working with her entire family! Enjoy these great images by the ever so talented Landon Jacob and the details for a fun coastal inspired Bat Mitzvah Celebration.

The celebration was held at Hampton Hall Clubhouse in Bluffton, South Carolina, starting with mocktails and cocktails, passed hors d'oeuvres, crudités, and gourmet cheese station. The escort card display reflected the motif of sand dollars and starfish which was carried throughout the evening. A Floral Affair design a great focal point above the outdoor mocktail and cocktail bar.

The paper details by Emily McCarthy were exquisite. From the custom designed invitation (which was sent in a darling hand lettered box, not an envelope!) signature monogram, escort cards, cocktail napkins, beach towels, hand towels, table markers, menus, signage, and even a custom designed vinyl dance floor, no detail was too small and no detail overlooked.

Custom draped perfectly by Party Tables, the ballroom was separated into two dining spaces, one for adults and one for Allessandra and her friends. Each section of the ballroom and table was designed to be unique and the flowers by A Floral Affair were flawless!

The real kid fun began after dinner where surprise after surprise awaited them. There was the custom t-shirt designer ready to create every guest a t-shirt that made a great favor to enjoy!

There was a Pino Gelato Cart and Cotton Candy Station for all to indulge!

Palmetto Kettle Corn was a fun and tasty addition to the party with freshly made popcorn served up in signature monogram bags.

In a room off the dance floor awaited a surprise that definitely knocked the guests socks off! A beautiful candy buffet, full of Allessandra's hand picked favorite candies and chocolates, was a delicious treat. And talk about eye candy!

The party would not have been complete without a tremendous entertainment team. These guys got the crowd dancing, flipped over chairs, stood on their heads, and didn't stop moving song after song. The amazing Electric Company featuring DJ Sir Andrew spun until late into the night.

When things finally started to wind down, a respite was found outside under cafe lights and stars for a campfire and s'mores.

We hope this is one celebration that Allessandra won't soon forget and it's an event we will treasure forever. What fun we had planning a dream party for such a fabulous family! Be sure to pick up a copy of Occasions Mitzvah's now on sale for even more details about this event and an interview with the family!

Colleton River Styled Photo Shoot

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, January 22, 2014

This Fall we collaborated with the wedding industry's finest on a styled photo shoot. It was a chance for all of our vendor friends to explore their creativity and get together to have some pretend wedding fun!

The theme of the shoot was to be southern glam and our color palate of rich gold, soft beige, white, hint of blush pink, and soft neutrals. We revolved around a Lowcountry oyster theme since this was set at the prestigious Colleton River Plantation. The exceptionally talented Landon Jacob Productions didn't disappoint with photography, Garden on the Square outdid themselves with flowers and decor, and with ALL of our vendors hard work (complete list at the bottom), our styled shoot was picked up by Southern Weddings Magazine blog last week!

Here's a closer look at all of the divine details...

Weston and Rhoades

Spencer Special Events - Tuesday, January 14, 2014

This fall Spencer Special Events was extremely honored to design, plan, and coordinate a beautiful, Southern-charmed wedding for a darling couple, Weston and Rhoades. Their classic and elegant style was reflected in every detail of the wedding with colors of cream, beige, hues of yellow, blush, and finished with greens. The ceremony and reception paid homage to the South Carolina Lowcountry and the nearby May River with details echoing the environment.

A custom tent at the brides' family home was built to hold the 400 plus guests and a one-of-a-kind lighting installation was created above the dance floor. The show-stopper 6-tiered cake by Minette Rushing, Savannah Custom Cakes was a towering focal point with thousands upon thousands of handmade sugar flowers. Kudos to Landon Jacob Productions for capturing every stunning photographic detail and all of our wonderful vendor friends who made this wedding possible (a complete list of our wedding vendors can be found at the end of this post! Caring for your ring!

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, January 08, 2014

Did you get engaged over the holidays? Can you not stop staring at your shiny new ring? In any case, this post is for you. Today we are talking about rings! At Spencer Special Events, we've had the opportunity to see some real sparklers and true gems. And we love hearing the stories about how your future hubby popped the question (we get goose bumps every time!) and checking out the new sparkle. With such a valuable investment, how do you properly care for these beauties? Here are some tips and recommendations passed down from generation to generation.

Caring for your wedding ring doesn't have to be hard or expensive. To make sure your ring is as sparkly as the day you got it, try the following:

  1. 1. Avoid putting lotions/creams on with your ring. Take it off before you put suntan lotion on, or body lotion. We've also heard the recommendation to take your ring off when handling red meat. (There's an oxidation process that occurs that doesn't lend well to sparkling rings!)
  2. 2. Use toothpaste and a soft tooth brush when cleaners are not available.
  3. 3. Place your ring in a small bowl with equal parts of dish soap and rubbing alcohol. Allow to sit for 20-30 minutes, then wash clean.
  4. 4. Jewelers often carry their own line of cleaners, so make sure you pick-up a bottle to have on hand!

Most jewelry stores and designers offer free cleanings to customers who purchase engagement rings and wedding bands from them. They use a process of soaking in cleaners and steaming and truly provide the best results. Take advantage of these free cleanings - you will love the way your ring looks!

While it's amazing to have your ring sparkle, it's even more important to make sure your diamonds and gems are secure. Make sure you have your prongs checked at least every six months by a reputable jeweler. Especially if you are particularly active, moving, or if you happen to knock your hand into something. A jeweler can ensure that the ring prongs are secure, so stones don't fall out!

Make sure to insure your ring with your home owners insurance (or renters insurance.) Get your rings appraised at your jeweler and call your insurance company to add the value. You may be asked to provide photos and will be asked to submit the appraisal. While it would be terrible to loose your rings, it would be even worse to loose them and have to buy them again! Getting insurance on your rings will be good peace of mind.

These ring beauties were from two of our brides this Fall 2013 and photographed by the uber talented Landon Jacob Productions. Did we miss any tips? Share them here or on our Facebook page!

Celebrating NYE

Spencer Special Events - Tuesday, December 31, 2013

It appears that there are two ends of the spectrum when it comes to celebrating New Years Eve. Those that go all out, get fancy, and dance on the tables with their bubbly.  And then there are those that prefer a quiet night at home, cuddled under a blanket, watching the ball drop. We can't say there's one right way to celebrate. Certainly in our lifetime, we've done both! From all of us at Spencer Special Events, we hope your New Years Eve sparkles brightly, however you choose to spend it.

We look forward to planning exquisite events and making our clients dreams become a reality. And of course, we look forward to sharing it all here on our blog, our website, and our social media.

Holiday Cocktail Soiree

Spencer Special Events - Friday, December 20, 2013

What an exciting time of the year it is!  At Spencer Special Events, we've been fortunate to attend some fun holiday soirees with family, friends and co-workers. We love mingling, sipping a festive cocktail, and wearing our festive attire. Today we have great ideas for hostess gifts and holiday looks for those remaining Christmas parties you are attending this weekend!

You can't go wrong in this hot red dress and gold jewelry accessories from J.Crew, they coordinate with a candy cane martini in your hand perfectly. Add a pop of color with the Louis Vuitton Altair clutch, it's stunning and certainly makes a statement. For hostess gifts, we like these colorful bottles of Dom, and Kate Spade entertaining accessories like a candle, corkscrew and glitter coasters.

We are sure your holidays will be celebrated in style. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas from Spencer Special Events!

Wedding Day Shoes

Spencer Special Events - Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Who does not LOVE shopping for shoes? This certainly is a topic near and dear to many girl's hearts and as you prepare your holiday outfits, this may give you some inspiration! We love seeing what our brides pick for their shoes on their wedding day.  Not all photographers like taking fancy shoe shots and might not be top on your shot list, but sometimes ladies, these babies need a shot of their own! Fancy, designer, exceptionally high heels, flats, prints, jewel encrusted, colors, and simple white, we've seen them all. What's your wedding day pick?

We think your shoes should be a fun expression of your style on your wedding day and make you feel fancy. Just make sure they are comfortable! Or if they aren't comfortable, have a plan B -- an alternative pair of shoes. A pair of flip flops or some darling flats are great ideas for later in the evening when you are dancing the night away. And I mean, really? Who doesn't LOVE buying 2 pairs of great shoes that you will wear for years to come?

So what's your wedding day shoe style? We want to know!

Thankful for....

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, November 27, 2013

As we gather around the table with our family this Thanksgiving and count our plentiful blessings, I am forever grateful for the folks that have helped me get to where I am today! I am thankful for my parents who have taught me how to work hard and to not only value and respect those around me, but to have fun and a great attitude in the process of achieving your goals!

I am thankful for Case Spencer, who certainly specializes in more than “lifting heavy things for the  SSE ladies” and supports me in everything I do. He's been incredibly supportive in my career and helpful in all of the fantastic events we have done at Spencer Special Events!

And for the two most darling fellas a momma can have, I am so thankful. They have taught me more about patience and adjusting than this planner could have ever expected! And I LOVE how every wedding weekend they long for pictures of my princess (aka the bride), the number of ceremony chairs required (they love numbers!), a snap shot of the wedding cake, and the excitement on their faces as they see the new gorgeous arrangement of flowers that adorn our breakfast nook the morning after wedding day.

I am so thankful for the great team of “angels” that care for my boys with such love and energy that helps us all get through those really long work days! And importantly the families that choose Spencer Special Events to work alongside them to plan such amazing weekend’s here in the Lowcountry. They have trusted us to serve them, treat us like family and for that I am forever honored and grateful.

But a wedding planner is only as good as her team.  They support me and serve a large role on these spectacular events! And boy did I hit the jackpot when it comes to folks that work with me to make sure every last detail is covered and perfectly placed. With their tremendous service, they have pushed Spencer Special Events to be a leader in the area, and it's our hard work and attention to service that truly sets us apart! They are not just my event coordinators, public relations, neighbors, and friends but truly the heart of Spencer Special Events.

My amazing team Lindsay Daly, Annie Bartholomew, Megan Wayt, and Libby O’Regan are truly the best in Lowcountry and at the tiptop of what I am thankful for.

Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving and Holiday Season!

Beautiful Brunch

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Spencer Special Events was honored to design and plan a weekend of events for the Reuben family celebrating their daughter's Bat Mitzvah. The day after the Bat Mitzvah ceremony and celebration, we planned a brunch for out of town guests at their waterfront home.

With a gorgeous sailcloth tent, rustic farm tables, simple calla lilies, and a full service brunch buffet complete with an omelet station, this brunch the perfect ending to their weekend. Relaxed and in a comfortable setting, friends and family enjoyed the beautiful weather and being together. These photos are by Landon Jacob Productions, floral design by A Floral Affair, delicious food by Celebrations Catering, and rentals by Amazing Event Rentals.

One of the things that we love the most about our job is really getting to know the families we work with. We felt so honored to be a part of this special weekend for the Reuben's and we can't wait to share the Mitzvah details!
