Happy Heritage and Easter Y'All

Spencer Special Events - Friday, April 18, 2014

Spring has sprung in the Lowcountry and what a week for Spencer Special Events and Hilton Head Island! The annual RBC Heritage Golf Tournament is happening now. It's one of our favorite events of the year and site of many of Spencer Special Events wonderful weddings throughout the years. The 18th lawn of the Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines Resort is such a spectacular venue for a wedding and obviously a great game of golf! Be sure to check us out on television this weekend.

It's also Easter weekend and we are inspired by the ever-so-talented Martha Stewart and this gorgeous photography by Martha Stewart.com, to plan a gorgeous Sunday brunch with our family. Beautiful moss-draped eggs for your tablescape and the most perfect deviled eggs, we are sure ours will turn out just like these! A girl can dream, right?

To all our wonderful couples, families, friends and talented vendor friends, we wish you a Happy Heritage and Happy Easter!

Christin and Rob

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, April 02, 2014

Finally!  Spencer Special Events is beyond thrilled to share Christin and Rob's Haig Point Fall wedding with you today! This beauty was featured last week on Grace Ormonde Wedding Style and as you will see from the photos below by Hopkins Studios, this wedding was pure style- just like the bride and groom! Yes, folks, this is one gorgeous couple and trust us, they are just as beautiful on the inside. We fell in love with them the minute we met them and enjoyed planning their wedding every step of the way not to mention the friendship we have gained.

Their celebration took place on Daufuskie Island, a remote island off the coast of South Carolina between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Georgia where no cars or trucks are permitted, an amazing private golf community. Residents and visitors get around in golf carts and the only access to the island is by ferry boat. It's charming light house is the perfect setting for a ceremony, and it's first class clubhouse is ideal for cocktails and a reception. Here's a look back at some of our favorite photos by Hopkins Studios! A big thanks to all of our vendor friends who helped make this wedding spectacular and Christin, Rob and their sweet families for being such a joy to work with.

Leslie and her staff at the Cottage (darling spot downtown Bluffton) make the most fabulous scones, breads, and pastries. A recent bride of ours included fresh baked baguettes from The Cottage and her own dipping oils handmade by the bride and groom!  We love including a cocktail like Charleston, South Carolina's famous Firefly Vodka. Heritage Shortbread cookies, Salty Dog playing cards, Lowcountry Luxe Candles, Savannah Bee Company Honey, and Palmetto Kettle Cornare also some of our favs. We always recommend including aspirin or Alka-Seltzer for those late night party-goers! Bottles of water or sparkling refresh your guests and personalized sunscreen and chap-stick are fun ways to keep your guests protected from our warm southern sun!

Inside your welcome bag, we'll also recommend you include "Where to Go" magazines and our favorite restaurant guide for guests who want to explore the area. And of course, we always recommend a custom welcome brochure. We work with the most talented designers to come up with a welcome guide detailing the events of your weekend. This helps organize your guests and let's them know when and where to be!

Hosting a destination wedding in the Lowcountry gives so many people the opportunity to visit this truly gorgeous area. Making sure your guests feel welcome and providing them with the right tools to enjoy the area is something we absolutely love to do! Spencer Special Events is happy to help you every step of the way from the design, shopping, assembly and delivery!

Spring Preview

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Spring has sprung in the Lowcountry and we couldn't be more thrilled! We are busy meeting with our couples, their sweet families, and all of the talented vendor friends who help make their dream weddings come true but today, we wanted to stop for a moment and share a sneak peek of what we are up to!

Like our Spencer Special Events couples, our color palettes are incredibly chic. Though we've seen a lot of vibrant and dark colors (think fuchsia or pomegranate) in blogs and magazines, our style tends to air on timeless, soft, and romantic shades. This season we are designing with linen, beige, sand, robin egg blue, turquoise, and other shades of the ocean. These natural colors are so harmonious with the landscape of the beloved Lowcountry, and make huge success in wedding design! Here's a palette preview of a spectacular Spencer Special Event wedding this Spring.

These timeless colors can be found everywhere and we are often inspired to plan beautiful weddings and events by every day objects of our affection. Whether it be fabulous Johnathan Adler nesting plates, a gorgeous Kate Spade cocktail dress or shades, J.Crew baubles, crisp linen pillows, a pretty wedge, a Moroccan poof or artwork for our home, we are inspired by the things in our life (or wish list!) What inspires you?

Gosh, we sure are excited for the season and can't wait to share our upcoming couples and their celebrations!

Happy Spring, Y'all.

Wedding Welcome Bag Ideas

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, March 19, 2014

When hosting a destination wedding where guests are coming in from all over the country, Spencer Special Events always recommends providing fabulous welcome bags. What a gracious way to welcome your guests to their hotel, home rental, or villa and just a taste of what is in store for the rest of the weekend! We LOVE these fine details and so will your guests after a day of travel.

When it comes to great welcome bags, there are a few tips to share. First: make the bag itself special. Whether it's a jute bag that they can carry their stuff to the beach in, a personalized cooler that's perfect for cooling their brews poolside, a large personalized beach pail that kiddos love for making sand castles, a basket, or monogrammed kraft bag, make sure the bag is special. (Packaging is everything!)

Inside we always try to provide local goodies -- not only because we love supporting local businesses but because it gives your guests a feel for the Lowcountry! Here are some examples of our favorite things to include from Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, and our surrounding area.

Guest List Template

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, March 12, 2014

At Spencer Special Events, our job is to make our brides, grooms, and their families lives easier during the wedding planning process, and of course, to keep things organized. One of the most challenging things to coordinate can be the guest list, especially for large weddings. Today we are providing a sample template and simple instructions, so you can organize your guest list flawlessly and we can execute your event just the way you want us to. Part of our job is to ensure your guests are comfortable, well taken care of, and have a fabulous weekend!

Let's walk you through each column, though it's fairly self-explanatory.

As your planner, we'll need to know a lot of information about your guests. We've found that it's best to supply the first and last names (in separate columns) of each guest. This helps us sort guests by family name easily. (We can pull up information on all the Pudenz's for example, simply by sorting the list.) We also need to know the total number of guests for each, in case their are children attending.

Keep careful track of your RSVP's as they come in.  A simple "N" or "Y" can help you sort when all replies are in.  Then we can easily tally the numbers.

We like to know where all guests are staying. This is especially important for delivery of welcome bags. It's also important if for example, Aunt Peggy is doing a reading but running late and we need to contact her hotel to find her! Or if a guest calls and needs to be picked up, we know where to send a car.

When coordinating your guests seating, we need to know table numbers or names. If you are having open seating or unassigned seating, you can obviously leave this blank or delete the column all together.

There are no special requests or notes that are too small. If you are aware that a particular guest has an allergy, you can note this here. Perhaps you'd like to tell us who is hard of hearing, that someone should not be seated next to a speaker, a guest is handicapped and may need assistance, or even some light family drama we should be on the look out for.  Our job is to make sure all of your guests are well taken care of.

You can download this template here! We look forward to making your day extra special and hope you find this guest list template helpful when planning your wedding.

Kara and Justin

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, March 05, 2014

Eek!! We've been dying to share this wedding and all of it's divine details with you for months! Last May, Spencer Special Events was extremely honored to work with the precious Kara, Justin and their wonderful families, to design and plan an incredible wedding weekend in the Lowcountry. You will soon see why we are still swooning over this glam soiree...

The custom designed wedding invitation and paper suite by Emily McCarthy sure set the stage for the glamorous Lowcountry wedding. The paper and all the pretty details were a big priority for Kara and her sweet mother, Karis. Emily surely delivered.

Kara, who could seriously wear a paper bag and look like she stepped off the runway, wore an Anne Barge spectacular strapless, fitted A-line gown encrusted with diamonds and layered with lace. Her make-up by SKINZIN and hair by Hautelocks was flawless.

There was not a dry eye in the room when Kara's father saw her for this first time (such a sweet moment!)

Kara and Justin were married at Providence Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and were carried to their cocktails and reception in a white vintage Rolls Royce complete with a personalized license plate for the newlyweds.

The celebration of Kara and Justin took place at the prestigious Colleton River Plantation on the Nicklaus Clubhouse lawn with world-class service and dining, led by Chef Robert Wysong.  A massive tent to hold 350 guests was created and custom draped with thousands (I mean thousands!) of yards of fabric and custom table linens by the one and only Party Tables.   Fabulous perimeter lighting and crystal chandeliers were hung with care by TEC.  (The tent installation took days and hours to create before the big day-- it was so exciting to watch it all come to life!!)

Spectacular florals and centerpieces were designed by the talented team A Floral Affair. No two tables were alike, each had a different arrangement of flowers, vases, votives, and focal points. Bright pink peonys popped out of the cream, gold, and blush pink color scheme.

Here's a look at some family photos and the bridal party! Could they be any more darling?

A Floral Affair created a one-of-a-kind tree installation in the center of the ballroom inside the Nicklaus Clubhouse. An impressive team of artists built the tree, which looked incredibly real, and finished it with beautiful flowering spring branches.  Hundreds of ribbons dangled from its limbs to hold escort cards -- guest names and corresponding table numbers. Spencer Special Events staff members greeted guests at this incredible display to help with locating their table assignments.

Three spectacular cakes were created by Minette Rushing, Savannah Custom Cakes! Here's a closer look at the floral details and custom monogram dance floor.

Photographer Donna Von Bruening captures her couples perfectly. We just love these portraits of Kara and Justin and know that the couple and their family will truly treasure these always!

An outdoor soft seating area was created near the outdoor bar just outside the tent. Comfy vintage furniture complete with the couple's custom designed monogram embroidered on throw pillows! Another detail we always love!

Kara and Justin truly radiated the entire evening -- from their introduction to toasts, to dinner and dancing, you could just see in their eyes how happy and in love they are. Truly warmed our hearts!

The details continued with custom golf ball markers, cigars, a video/photo booth, and an incredible surprise firework send-off that few will ever forget.

So there you have it, folks. A wedding WE will never forget! As you can tell by the photos, it was certainly a Lowcountry glam affair for a fabulous couple and their sweet family.

Of course, this wedding would not have been possible without the hard work of a number of incredibly talented vendor friends, several of which have been mentioned but a complete list can be found below! Thank you to Donna Von Bruening Photographers for capturing this day so perfectly and to everyone who made this wedding truly unique and memorable. And above all, thank you to Kara and Justin -- we wish you all the love and happiness in the world and truly appreciate the friendship we have created with you!

Wedding Weekend Wardrobe

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, February 26, 2014

On your wedding weekend, YOU are the star of the show. With all that attention and photos we know that brides put a lot of pressure on themselves to look their very best.  We consulted with our favorite local Bluffton boutique, Gigi's, to get ideas for a bride's wedding weekend wardrobe in the Lowcountry. We wanted effortless, timeless, stylish, and comfy looks to keep brides feeling confident. Boutique co-owner and dear friend, Emily, put together a few fabulous head-to-toe ensembles for wedding eve, day of getting ready, and brunch that we just love!

From a bold and graphic look that makes a fashion statement, an understated, soft and romantic look, to a golden glam look, Emily shared these three ideas for brides for their rehearsal dinner and/or welcome party!

On the day of your wedding, it's important to feel comfortable but also look good for all those "getting ready" photos. Emily chose a pink and white chevron long shirt and simple black leggings. The shirt has a lot of buttons to leave a very wide opening at the head. The shirt has plenty of buttons to make sure you don't mess up your do and flawless make-up!

The Sunday brunch is often a time where brides add a bit more color and spunk to their attire. We love Emily's bright and cheery choices AND how she is keeping it Coastal Chic with each look.

Of course, if your event is an oyster roast or bluegrass BBQ, you will want to chose clothes that are a bit more relaxed and appropriate, but Gigi's can help you there, too! They have darling clothes and a fabulous staff ready to help you feel your best! We could seriously play for hours in their store and adore their accessories along with their one of kind gifts, for all those fashionable in your life!

Local to Bluffton, South Carolina or in town on a planning visit for your wedding? Make sure to stop into Gigi's on Calhoun Street and shop for your wedding weekend wardrobe. Be sure to tell them the Spencer Special Events girls sent ya!

Elizabeth & RJ

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Wow! Do we have a treat for you today! We are thrilled to share all the beautiful details Elizabeth and RJ's spectacular November 2013 wedding.

Elizabeth and RJ were married on the picturesque 18th lawn of Harbour Town Golf Links course, adjacent to the iconic lighthouse located on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Their reception was held in the Champions Ball Room at the world-class Sea Pines Resort. With rustic, fall touches mixed into county club glam with a hint of nautical twist, this wedding was truly unique. Spencer Special Events worked closely with our talented vendor friends to create a one-of-a-kind lighting focal point for the dance floor, a simply gorgeous arbor under which the couple shared their wedding vows, coordinated a menu with a wide array of mouth watering food stations from around the world, and ensured every detail was picture perfect. We were so honored to work with Elizabeth, RJ, and their family, all of whom could not have been more genuine and special to us. Here is a look at all of the divine details, photographed by the talented Landon Jacob.

Custom Designed Wedding Invitations

Spencer Special Events - Saturday, February 08, 2014

Ahhhhh....paper. It's truly one of our favorite wedding details! From the save the date to the invitation to the place card setting to the menu -- as well as the unexpected and nontraditional paper details, we just swoon for them all. Over the past several years, we've had the privilege to work with the exceptionally talented Emily McCarthy to create custom, dream wedding invitations and paper details for our Spencer Special Events brides. You won't find any of these at your local stationery shop or online, from start to finish they are completely unique to match the style, vision, and personality of the betrothed.

Emily McCarthy is a brand and paper stylist who designed for the retailer Swoozie's, started a line of stationery called Twist, and recently launched her online store (EmilyMcCarthy.com.) According to Emily, the most important thing in designing custom wedding invitations is to stay true to your style and wedding vision. She works with each bride and groom to make them perfect and Spencer Special Events will help you through every step of that process!

Take a peek at a couple of our favorites from Fall...

Stephen and Vicki's invitation was absolutely gorgeous and a real treat for the guest invited to their fall soiree! The rich color palette, beautiful Lowcountry details, and letterpress features were just stunning.

Here is a quick glance at Kara and Justin's May 2013 wedding. The paper details were exquisite! (We cannot wait to share their complete wedding soon here on our blog. It has been chosen to be featured by Inside Weddings (eek!))

As you can see from napkins, menus, place cards, programs, save the dates, response cards, and invitations, each piece coordinates beautifully in one cohesive suite. We love seeing every time what Emily and her team comes up with next -- no two weddings are alike, which is exactly why we recommend Emily McCarthy to our discerning brides who want that completely custom look for all their wedding details.

We would love to hear if you love wedding paper details as much as we do. Share your thoughts here or on our Facebook page.

Katelyn and Evan Engagement Portraits by Joy Marie

Spencer Special Events - Tuesday, February 04, 2014

What happens when you have a stunning Julliard-trained Ballerina, handsome fella, dynamite chemistry, and an acclaimed celebrity wedding photographer? One smoking hot, creative engagement photo shoot!

Such is the case when our Spencer Special Events Spring 2014 bride and groom, Katelyn and Evan, worked with celebrity Los Angeles based destination wedding photographer, Joy Marie. Today we are sharing their gorgeous engagement session and tips straight from Joy Marie herself.

Newly engaged? Take note of Joy's tips for a successful engagement photo session!

"An engagement shoot is a great opportunity to get to know your photographer, and get some beautiful images of you and your fiancé when you’re not in your wedding dress and tux. Let's be honest, you can only have so many wedding pictures on your walls. As a photographer, it's really important to me that my couples stay true to who they are, and that their personalities come out in the pictures.

You see all kinds of trends with engagement shoots, but if you’re not the couple that normally has a picnic in the middle of some overgrown grass, then it's probably not the theme you want to choose for your shoot. Not every engagement shoot needs to have a "theme,” but sometimes incorporating something that's important or personal to you into your shoot makes it a little more special. Like in the case of Evan & Katelyn, she was a Julliard-trained Ballerina for many years, so this was something they wanted to incorporate into their shoot. For you and your fiancé it may be your dog, your favorite swanky hotel or the place where you first met.

Just remember to have fun! It sounds simple, but the best photos come from the couples who are naturally enjoying their time together and loving on each other. Laugh, flirt, be sexy...relax and enjoy each other. We get the best photos when you least expect it!"

We are beyond thrilled to be working with such an amazing couple planning their destination wedding and working with this fantastic photographer.   Here's to Evan and Katelyn's journey!
