Real Wedding: Lesley and David

Spencer Special Events - Wednesday, July 06, 2016

Move over neutrals this darling wedding was vibrant with pinks, blues, details and LOVE! We were so excited to work with the delightful bride Lesley, since we had the pleasure of working with the Grabias family before planning her adorable sister Alli's wedding!

Lesley and David had their first date in St. Thomas, so it was only fitting that they added a tropical flair to their Palmetto Bluff wedding. This wedding was one for the books. Especially the Knot Carolina!

Kind words from Lesley about working with Amanda:

"Our wedding weekend could not have happened without the amazing ideas and efforts of Spencer Special Events. As an event planner myself, I know the importance of surrounding yourself with reliable vendors and Amanda Spencer is simply the best! Amanda planned my sister's Palmetto Bluff wedding a few years ago and has since become part of our family. So, it was the easiest decision we made to hire her again! She worked with David and I to define our vision and create the perfect weekend for our guests. The planning process was so enjoyable with her at the helm. She recommended fabulous vendors and made planning the wedding from out of town very simple. From constructing the most marvelous welcome boxes for our guests to helping organize a surprise steel drum band for the cocktail hour, every detail was perfect. It was such a treat to know that the event was in wonderful hands and I didn't have to worry about anything! We were truly able to just enjoy the weekend and relax knowing Amanda was there!

Lesley's favorite part from the wedding:

"My favorite part of the wedding day was our boat ride from the ceremony to the reception venue. The ride was about 20 minutes long and David and I enjoyed every minute of it! The trip allowed us some time to reflect on the day's true meaning. We were able to take a moment to just enjoy each other's company in our favorite, low-country setting. Additionally, it was a VERY hot summer evening, so the trip provided a lovely (much needed!) breeze. As we pulled up to the dock, it was so much fun to get back into party mode with all our friends and family there to welcome us! We immediately headed to the dance floor to kick off the celebration!

Lesley's tip for the big day:

"Have fun! It is easy to get bogged down by minute details and family politics but this should be a happy process. Just keep focusing on the bigger picture - the reason for the celebration - and enjoy the planning of course!

Real Wedding: Mary Kate and Joe

Spencer Special Events - Thursday, June 30, 2016

Check out this adorable and sweet wedding featuring Mary Kate and Joe Laird. It was quite adorable with her crew of ring bearers and flower girls and literally sweet with lots of yummy desserts!

See what the Bride, Mary Kate had to say when she reflected on their wonderful day!

Looking back on our wedding day, I still can't believe how perfect it was! I have always hoped to get married in Hilton Head. When we got engaged there it was the obvious choice for the wedding. At first, I was a bit overwhelmed with everything that we needed to do for the wedding. Since we lived out of state, every task seemed that much more daunting. A family friend recommended Spencer Special Events to us. From the first time we talked to Amanda, I instantly felt at ease. She was able to understand everything we wanted for the wedding. She helped us pick out the perfect vendors that helped create our perfect day. Besides the extreme heat on our wedding day, I could not have asked for a more perfect day. Amanda and her team were able to make all of our wishes come true. When I first saw the venue, I was truly overwhelmed.

My advice to brides to be is not to give up on what you want. If there are budget concerns, there is always a way to make it work. I know families can have big opinions too, but it truly comes down to what you and your fiance want for your day. Another piece of advice is to let go on your wedding day. For us, the temperature was in the 90s and the heat index well over 100. I could have spent the day stressing about how hot it was and what it meant for our guests. We both choose to let it go and focus on enjoying the day.

My favorite moment from the wedding had to be when I first saw Joe. We decided to do a first look. It was just the two of us. I loved the intimacy of that moment. I will never forget the look on his face when he first turned around and saw me.

Summer like a local in the Lowcountry

Spencer Special Events - Friday, June 10, 2016

Hilton Head Island is home to fabulous beaches, golf courses, tennis courts, bike paths and extreme humidity in the summer months. Hilton Head has great summer activities for all ages like entertainment at the iconic Harbour Town Marina, festival and fireworks every Tuesday at Shelter Cove and of course relaxing on the beach. Below are a few summer activities with a local flare that you should try!

Adventurous Boat Tour

Lately when out on the boat, I spotted some funky looking boats that I have never seen before. Come to find out, they are called Craigcat boats and recently just came to the Island! Backwater Adventure operates scenic waterway tours on the boats and describes them as "Go carts on the water". If you are feeling adventurous, you found the perfect activity!

Daufuskie Island

For an authentic experience, head over to Freeport Marina on Daufuskie Island to see the local boat outing spot, especially on the weekends! You will meet all sorts of characters here and can enjoy a meal and a cocktail listening to live music. While you are on Daufuskie, we recommend renting a golf cart and riding around to see the mostly untouched Island. You will be amazed how much time you can spend doing this! Click the local ferry schedule so you don't have to feel excluded for not having a boat.

Farmers Market

Drop by the local farmers market to enjoy fresh produce and other goods. Plus, summer and strolling through a farmers market goes hand in hand. Sea Pines Center Farmers Market is on Tuesdays from 10:00-2:00 Bluffton Farmers Market is on Thursdays from 2:00 - 7:00 with complimentary parking and trolley service from Bluffton Village.

Palmetto Bluff Concert Series

We have never needed an excuse to visit Palmetto Bluff, but this is a festive summer activity that shouldn't be missed! Catch some live bands, a couple even local, underneath the oaks on the Village Green. Picnics and coolers are welcome or you can purchase food and beverage. Click on the concert series link for the schedule.

Beaufort Water Festival

Mark your calendars for July 15th-24th. A scenic drive on 170 will land you in the charming town of Beaufort. This fun community event has daily arts and crafts markets, numerous tournaments to participate in, yummy lowcountry food, and daily entertainment including a concert from country artist, Canaan Smith. Check out the different events here

Happy Summer Y'all!

May Day at Haig Point on Daufuskie Island

Spencer Special Events - Monday, April 18, 2016

This darling couple and thier southern soiree have stolen our hearts. Below is a peek at Fallon and Patrick's May wedding at Haig Point on Daufuskie Island. Also a few helpful hints and kind words from the sweet bride. Thank you, Patrick and Fallon! You were a dream to work with!

From the Bride:

Everything was such a wonderful experience that it is hard to pick out favorites! Having mimosas and spending time with my bridesmaids, while getting ready before the ceremony. Walking down the aisle with my dad. When my father-in-law couldn't get the ring off the ring pillow and someone had to hand him a pocket knife to cut the string. Having my 10 year old twin brothers in the wedding and looking super cute in their outfits. My brothers and 7 year old cousin were cracking me up all night on the dance floor! Seeing the Reception Tent for the first time - it took my breath away it was so beautiful and stunning. Our band was awesome! Having the band allow my friend to sing and dance, JUST like Mick Jagger, to a Rolling Stones song. The glow sticks and glow glasses!! Getting everyone on the dance floor for the very last song - Journey, "Don't Stop Believing". The photo booth was so much fun and the pictures were great to see after the wedding. Of course, I can't forget actually saying "I Do", our first dance, and dancing with my dad and grandpa. I couldn't have asked for a better day within such a beautiful venue. Having our friends and family with us on the island for multiple days was amazing, happy, and fun. Having everyone there to celebrate my husband and I was an incredible feeling.

Helpful Hints:

The day goes by so fast it's like it never even happened or a dream. Take in every detail and every moment and don't sweat the small stuff. If possible try to thank and approach your guests at the Rehearsal Dinner so on the Wedding Day you can enjoy more of the moments instead of spending it greeting guests.

Amanda is a person you automatically feel like you have known your whole life. Her upbeat and sweet personality is infectious and made the experience always feel like a positive one. Any time I felt stressed about something, she always made me feel that it would all be okay and had a solution. Amanda took the time to get to know us and our families. She noted every detail and had a very detailed outline of the wedding day. She also has a very good timeline of the wedding planning and it was a great checklist throughout the year. Amanda is someone you want to hang out with as a friend. I missed communicating with her after the wedding was over. You get used to seeing her name and those emails come up in your inbox after a year! Amanda knows her stuff, and on the wedding day, I did not have to worry about one single thing! She had everything covered before and after the wedding and was prepared for anything that could go wrong.

Real Wedding: Lauren and Colin

Spencer Special Events - Monday, March 14, 2016

As we are gearing up for another busy spring here in the Lowcountry we can't help but look back on the beautiful weddings and families we were so lucky to serve last year. This is one that will not disappoint!

We were so in love with Lauren and Colin's Memorial Day weekend wedding celebration at the gorgeous Berkeley Hall and Belfair Plantation here in Bluffton, South Carolina. Y'all this sweet couple took plantation wedding to a whole other level and shared with their guests some of our favorite locations and venues. Definitely showcasing the beauty of Bluffton.

As far as design, blush met gold in such a perfect way, fabulous details and printing brought to you by the incredible folks in Charleston at Studio R, a stunning floral ceremony focal crafted by our dear friends at A Floral Affair, and prosecco filled welcome gifts were just a few of the highlights from this swoon worthy Memorial Day Weekend. Not to mention the perfectly captured images by Virgil Bunao and video by Cinema Couture Films to help us remember the picture perfect day!

The Bride and Groom said "I do" on the beautiful lawn overlooking the 18th hole at Berkeley Hall Clubhouse. Their guests watched them exit joyfully as husband and wife while enjoying the breathtaking views and refreshing cocktails before heading down the road to Belfair.

The guests then arrived to cocktails through the Avenue of Oaks at Belfair Plantation greeted by the soulful sounds from Voices of El Shaddai, followed by dinner and dancing in the Oaks dining room and After  Party in the Golf Club Grill.

From the Bride, Lauren:

We chose South Carolina because it has been a special place to me since I was a little girl as we vacationed there every year. I love the romantic setting and southern sophistication that Berkeley and Belfair offered. We wanted our guests to feel as if they were on vacation so we coordinated an entire weekend of events. After seeing Amanda's work and talking to her on the phone, I knew she was the right person to help me create and style the weekend of my dreams. She was so organized and had so many wonderful visions - there is no way I cold have gotten through the weekend without her and her amazing team.

This chic wedding is definitely one for the books. To learn more about the celebration and details please check out the beautiful feature on Snippet and Ink

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Lauren and Colin, and thank you so much for choosing Spencer Special Events!

Real Wedding: Jill & Mike

Spencer Special Events - Monday, February 22, 2016

Y'all meet Jill and Mike. We had the absolute pleasure of working with them to plan their May wedding at beautiful Honey Horn Plantation located on Hilton Head Island. What makes this wedding even more special is that Mike's sister is such a dear friend. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Mary and her family for thinking of us to help plan this special celebration!

This sweet southern wedding was nothing short of the perfect day. With adorable details such as vintage bottles and mason jars collected by the bride for the flowers so perfect by A Floral Affair, to the cocktail lounge under the Spanish moss. Guests got to enjoy a fabulous menu filled with southern favorites like fried chicken and shrimp and grits by the incredibly talented Bevrick's Catering team. Bev and Rick were such a pleasure to work with and their food was outstanding. Not to mention the details in their set-up and food design. After guests dined on the fabulous feast, they danced the night away under cafe lights in the open-air pavilion.

We want to take a minute to talk about this sweet Brides day-of look. First off can we please give a shout out to those shoes! Swoon! From her effortlessly beautiful locks of hair down to those stunning shoes, we couldn't get enough.

Jill and Mike wanted to show all of their guests why the love Hilton Head so much. We had the best time helping them with their adorable southern nuptials.  Below are more details from Jill and Mike's May wedding celebration.

Springtime in Sea Pines, Real Weddings: Kathryn & Mike

Spencer Special Events - Tuesday, January 19, 2016

For those of you who have never seen South Carolina in the spring, there is no better place to experience it than the 18th Lawn on Harbour Town Golf Links at the beautiful Sea Pines Resort. The stunning view along with the signature Lighthouse in the backdrop is a recipe for a lovely wedding site.

Sea Pines mixed with the sweetest couple you ever did meet, plus a beautiful blush and navy wedding, might just be the perfect day!

From the dreamy floral ceremony focal to the blush sequins linens, this wedding has stolen our hearts and those at The Knot Carolina. Below are some of the highlights from Kathryn and Mike's wedding celebration and we are thrilled to see it in print and on newsstands.

From the Bride:

"We owe our amazing wedding day to Amanda Spencer and the rest of the Spencer Special Events!

The best decision we made was hiring Amanda to help plan our dream wedding. When we got engaged and picked our wedding location, the first item on my "to do list" was to research and find a wedding planner. I spoke with a few individuals before my conversation with Amanda, but I immediately knew she was the one for us after our first phone call. Amanda is the type of person that is genuinely excited about love, your story and makes you even more excited about your big day. She is extremely upbeat, organized and knowledgeable about everything wedding! Amanda and her team made the whole process so much fun and enjoyable due to their expertise on the area, vendors, venues, etc., and Amanda's wonderful personality. We planned for a year and Amanda was always responsive when we had questions or concerns (which were seldom due to her updates and organization). We cannot imagine a better planner and have no idea what we would have done without Amanda. She went above and beyond in every aspect of planning. Her husband even helped direct our guests on our wedding day and drove us to get last minute pictures when the sun was setting. As the bride, I was able to completely relax on our wedding weekend and my family & friends even commented that they were very surprised at my calmness. Thanks to Amanda, I was absolutely stress-free.

We would highly recommend Spencer Special Events to any of our family and friends. We honestly miss talking to her regularly and still consider her a great friend. Thank you Spencer Special Events for making our wedding better than we could have ever dreamed."

Our Fav Fall Details

Spencer Special Events - Friday, October 09, 2015

Fall is always a fun time of year here at Spencer Special Events. Not only do we look forward to the pumpkin season with our little ones, we also love the cozy wedding details that come with it. Below is a round up of some of our favorite fall detail moments as well as some new takes on the old classics.

Wraps and blankets are fun elements to add to the cocktail hour design as well as a nice gift for your guest to stay warm. This season try a pop of plaid or wool throw to warm up the evening.

Signature cocktails are a detail we can't live without. The new trend is serving drinks before the ceremony for your guests to enjoy. Adding a spiked cider to your outdoor ceremony is the perfect fall touch.

Or even incorporating the drink into the seating chart with a little touch of glam!

A lounge area is the perfect detail, it adds a layer to the design of your event and extra seating for your guests. A vintage love seat with a fur and decorative pillows adds a wonderful mix of textures.

The detail options are endless which is why we love the fall season so much!

Happy Fall Y'all!
